6 Things Every Man Needs to Know About Vasectomies
The side part has been a mainstay in men’s hairstyles since the ’40s—long before Don Draper brought it back. Chances are, this is the only cool look you might share with your dad.
We asked veteran stylist Nick Arrojo, who just opened his second namesake salon—in Brooklyn—how to achieve the perfect side part. Here’s his advice on how you can pull it off at home.
1. Get the right haircut
When you’re in the chair, ask the barber for a classic, graduated shape with short sides. That will contrast the longer, heavier top section, which allows for versatility when styling at home.
“By keeping the back and sides short, you retain a strong masculine shape,” Arrojo says. “The length on top will allow for classically sleek or loose and textured styling.”

2. Decide where to place the part
Keep it as close to the ear as possible, approximately where the side part of your head transitions to the crown.
“Low parts create a square shape, which looks great on everyone,” Arrojo says. Learn The Right Way to Part Your Hair.
3. Finish with a strong product to hold style in place.
Once you’ve nailed the ultimate side part, make sure it stays that way with a holding gel.
Arrojo recommends his own ARROJO hair gel, which is a translucent formula specially designed to keep styles in place without getting flakey or stiff.
